Tabby House’s services include:

Marketing plans. We want to know your plans for your book. Have you written a family history, a volume of poetry, a business or self-help book, a novel, autobiography or children’s picture book? Will you be giving copies away, selling them to a niche market through seminars or on the Web, or attempting retail sales? Your decisions affect the press run, type size and type of cover.

Editing. Many authors have had help from friends and family, but often these “editors” are not aware of book style use of The Chicago Manual of Style, and have not used the most current edition of Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary as part of the proofing process. Or they may not have had the courage to suggest changes. Tabby House experts help with both. We need to see 20 or so pages of your text so that we can evaluate the level of editing needed.

Rewrites. Tabby House may suggest rewriting or adding to sections of the book. Our experts are available to assist with that.

Proofreading. Proofreading is a cooperative process between the author and Tabby House.

Page design. Tabby House uses recommended book fonts and leading (the space between the lines). We aim for a professional look.

Covers. Covers sell the book. Tabby House works with professional cover designers to have a cover created that is appropriate to your genre. Historical fiction has a different look, for example, than a how-to book. Or we can create a lower-cost cover in-house for some projects. We make sure that you have appropriate information on the spine back cover. We’ve seen e-books with the spine text facing the wrong way, no price or information about the book or author on the back, but the e-book logo is prominently displayed on the back. Beware of false economies.

Printing and binding. Tabby House works with major book manufacturers and digital presses in the United States and China (for color picture or photography books), to get the best price and best results for your project.

Indexing. We can arrange for professional indexing for nonfiction books.

Illustrations. We can work with your illustrations or illustrator, or put you in contact with experienced illustrators. Talk to us before you hire an illustrator. We will make suggestions about format and media.

Basic packaging. Tabby House can also have your book printed as presented with your cover design and no editing, but, frankly, most books need more than that. If so, we’ll tell you that.

This is going to make a great story. I have asked eight people, teachers, librarians, editors, and interested readers to read the basic text and to feel free to make corrections. They did. I made the corrections.

Then I receive the copy from you. I love that the pages almost turned red. It is the sign of a professional editor. I feel much better and inspired.-Kyle Miller, author of Snowy Pea and the Ghost Crab

"I have just received the paperback. You're both wonderful and so is THE BOOK, me and the whole . . . world." Sally Bolding, The Cyclops Window (reviewed in 2004 by ForeWord magazine) and Riverbottom Decades,  published by LeveePress Two.

Tabby House turned my book dreams into reality! Jim and Linda Salisbury guided me through the publishing process with wisdom and patience. From editing the original manuscript to marketing the finished product, Jim and Linda offered great advice and personal service that proved invaluable. I am extremely proud of my two award-winning books, and I have Tabby House to thank for my success!” Holly Moulder, author of Eyes of the Calusa, and Cord of Three Strands. "I received first-class information and advice. Doing business with Jim and Linda has been a pleasure in itself. They're smart, witty, and willing to impart their wealth of knowledge to help people like me produce a wonderful book. The cover design is sharp and distinct. The editing was thorough and precise. The back cover text, written by Linda, was thorough and indicated that she had read and digested every word of my book." Camille Johnston Manella, Cookin' with Camille, among other things: A Collection of Culinary Delights, published by C & H Publishing
