Why Should I Consider Self-Publishing?
There are many reasons to self-publish. One of the most important
is MONEY! Successful self-publishers (and there are many)
reap all the profits from their projects, not just a small
royalty. A second reason is CONTROL! You will make sure your
book is published, and is produced the way it should be. Finally,
the major publishers are swamped with manuscript submissions.
Many will no longer accept submissions from authors, only
from agents. And, because the majors have stockholders to
please, new authors are having more and more difficulty getting
a break.
Jim and Linda Salisbury are authors of Smart
Self-Publishing, an author's guide to producing
a marketable book, now in its third edition. It is a comprehensive,
honest and informative guide for self-publishing authors and
we strongly urge you to get a copy. The book was noted in
the June 21, 2004 issue of Newsweek.
Tabby House, a nationally known, highly regarded publishing
and book-packaging company, was founded in 1990 by Linda and
Jim Salisbury. Our specialty is producing professional quality
books that will stand up to any competition on the shelves
of retail bookstores and libraries. Our customers are authors
who want to self-publish and small, independent presses. So
far, we have produced more than 350 books for many satisfied
customers. We work with authors of books of virtually all
genre: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, children's four-color
picture books, histories, photographic essays, how-to-do-its,
self-help, memoirs and coffee-table books. We can produce
soft-cover, trade paperbacks (not mass-market) and case-bound
books with jackets. Most of our jobs are geared for the retail
market, but many are short-run works for limited distribution,
such as genealogies, personal memoirs and poetry.

Many of our competitors base their pricing simply on the cost of printing.
Tabby House does not work that way. We work on the publishing principle of
customization (books and authors are unique, and are addressed from
this perspective). We pride ourselves on professionalism and quality
results. We need to see sample pages and discuss your project to give
you a realistic estimate.
Although most of our customers prefer the customized service, Tabby
House does offer a basics package that includes:
- Spell Checking
- Book Cover from photo, or colored text
- Tabby House ISBN
- Initial Run of 100 Books (5.5 x 8.5 or 6 x 9, 160 to 200
pages)
- Reprints in minimums of 25 copies
Prices for basic services and minimum runs (100 copies) start at about $2,000
